Piraeus licenses Misys BankFusion Equation to deliver products faster than its competition and to strengthen expansion plans

Misys plc, the global application software and services company, today announces that Piraeus Bank, the Athens-based universal bank, has licensed Misys BankFusion Equation as the technology platform to underpin its expansion plans.

Misys Equation has added value to Piraeus Bank’s operations for many years across its domestic and selected international branches, using Equation to run the bank’s operations across 343 branches in Greece and 220 branches in three of its international subsidiaries. Piraeus went live with Equation 3.9 in its Albanian operations in 2008 and Romanian business in 2009. The implementations were an important part of the bank’s growth strategy and has helped Piraeus to continue to achieve its business ambitions, as it continues to expand in South-Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean markets. Its future growth objectives in its domestic and international operations will be accelerated by BankFusion Equation.

In this latest release of the solution, Equation has been re-architected into an SOA environment using Misys' revolutionary BankFusion platform. Misys BankFusion Equation delivers Java (J2EE) re-usable components to Piraeus and gives it improved security and risk management capabilities and the flexibility to scale the business rapidly. BankFusion Equation automatically generates the system’s Java code, significantly reducing manual input and errors and accelerating solution modifications.

“It is imperative that we move faster than our competition,” states Janis Delis, DGM - Operations Technology and Organisation, Piraeus Bank. “Our investment in Misys and its BankFusion Equation solution is critical in our desire to maintain our competitive edge as we continue to expand and to be agile and innovative for our customers. The revolutionary technology in BankFusion Equation will allow us to launch innovative new products and services quickly that would normally take months of development with other core banking systems and seamlessly integrate best of breed solutions. We look forward to continuing to receive the support we have received over the fruitful relationship we have had with Misys, and to strengthening our position in retail banking and enterprise financing still further.”

Guy Warren, EVP and General Manager, Banking, Misys states, “The management team at Piraeus has chosen to invest in Misys, our BankFusion strategy and the future roadmap of the solution. This will give them a unique ability to tailor their business processes to the exact requirements of the organisation, without having to replace the existing underlying technology, and enable them to stay ahead of the competition.”

TANDBERG First to Demonstrate Immersive Three-Screen Telepresence Interoperability with Cisco TelePresence

TANDBERG Total Telepresence solution delivers additional immersive third-party telepresence interoperability capabilities for expanded company-to-company collaboration.

TANDBERG (OSLO: TAA.OL) announced it has successfully demonstrated telepresence interoperability between TANDBERG Telepresence and the Cisco CTS 3000. This demonstration, the first of its kind, was enabled by integrating Cisco's new Telepresence Interoperability Protocol (TIP) into the award-winning TANDBERG Telepresence Server. With this integration, TANDBERG now adds Cisco TelePresence solutions to the list of third-party telepresence solutions it can seamlessly interoperate with while maintaining the three-screen, high-definition telepresence experience.

"As we build a global video community, it is imperative that organizations are not locked in by technology," said Fredrik Halvorsen, TANDBERG CEO. "Our Total Telepresence solution is interoperable with a broad range of third-party solutions, including those from Polycom and Microsoft. We are very happy to now deliver even greater value to our customers by bringing participants on TANDBERG Telepresence and Cisco TelePresence together with an immersive, three-screen experience. Today's demonstration reflects TANDBERG's continued commitment to open standards, providing scalable solutions and protecting our customers' video investments for the future."

According to Frost & Sullivan, although many companies initially think of telepresence as a substitute for the corporate jet, the technology holds even more value when it can seamlessly link to other video conferencing solutions - within and outside of an organization - to ensure all necessary participants can attend any meeting. TANDBERG customers have seen the exponential value of interoperability between third-party telepresence and video conferencing for company-to-company collaboration while maintaining the best experience possible. TANDBERG is consistently the first to deliver the most advanced interoperability solutions to the market, demonstrated by:

* TANDBERG first to demonstrate a multi-screen, high-definition telepresence call with Cisco TelePresence CTS 3000 (see video).

* TANDBERG first to deliver a telepresence solution that can interoperate with third-party telepresence systems while maintaining the immersive telepresence experience.

* TANDBERG first to enable high definition video between Microsoft Office Communicator and immersive multi-screen telepresence.

* TANDBERG first to deliver a complete portfolio of HD telepresence and video conferencing solutions that can interoperate with any other standards compliant systems both within an organization and company-to-company.

Interoperability with Cisco CTS 3000 and other Cisco systems will be available through a software upgrade to the TANDBERG Telepresence Server later this year. Axis remains leader in surveillance market, target revenue growth 40% in APAC

- The rise of Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (NGNBN),

- The popularity of high definition images and high definition TVs in the region,

- The rise of the H.264 standard in video compression techniques, and the drive towards open networks.

Axis Communications, global market leader in network video solutions, with its extensive experience and innovative network video solutions is driving the ongoing shift from analog to digital video surveillance, today unveils its FY10 projecting revenue growth of 40-50 percent in Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Nafis Jasmani, Regional Sales Manager, ASEAN for Axis Communications (S) Pte Ltd., said “Although the growth slowed in 2009, Axis sales have improved quarter by quarter throughout the year. We attribute our commercial endurance in large part to the strength of our partner ecosystem; we are not going it alone on this journey. As one of the three founding ONVIF members, the organization has made incredible progress in 2009, having grown its member base to 103 companies worldwide. Last September, Axis announced our first product to support ONVIF in the form of a firmware upgrade for our AXIS P3301 Fixed Dome Network Camera”

Mr. Nafis, said “We expect continued strong demand in the market within the next three years. While the more mature markets in Asia comprises primarily of analog installations, the emerging economies are leapfrogging in their security infrastructure implementations of network-based surveillance. IMS Research estimates that the Asia market for network video cameras will reach US$4122.8 million in 2011. We are looking at aggressive growth in APAC in 2010 and to extend our market leadership, we are projecting a revenue growth of 40-50% and a headcount growth of 20%, mainly in the sales and pre-sales departments. For Thailand, we will see an increase in digital surveillance and we expect a tremendous growth of 46.3% in 2010

In 2010, IP surveillance technology and features will be the popularity of high definition images and high definition TVs in the region, the rise of the H.264 standard in video compression techniques, and the drive towards open networks. Moreover, the rise of Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (NGNBN) will be raised up. NGNBN will be deployed in many countries across Asia in 2010 and in countries like Australia and Malaysia; companies are already starting to migrate to digital network video surveillance solutions. In Thailand, the availability of 3G in the near future will provide platforms for advanced applications, mobile wireless broadband and network services, such as wide-area wireless video calls and broadband wireless data. Data and mobile broadband services provided by 3G networks will ultimately benefit Thailand and its economy.

Axis was one of the earliest adopters of the H.264 standard, and it has driven the demand for our solutions especially in applications where there are demands for high frame rates and high resolution. The drive towards open networks in the tech industry will also be a major driver for Axis. In September 2009, Axis was the first company to completely open its network video products for third-party applications with the AXIS Camera Application Platform. This open application platform makes it possible for any company to develop downloadable applications for Axis’ market-leading range of network cameras and video encoders.

An IMS research report in September 2009 forecasts that the market for intelligent devices in security & business intelligence applications is set to grow at an annual rate of over 40% from 2008 to 2013, and open application platforms like the Axis Camera Application Platform will be one of the key factors driving faster growth, creating new opportunities for video content analysis software in the network camera and video encoder markets.

Counsyl Test to Prevent Diseases Like Those in 'Extraordinary Measures' Now at 100+ Medical Centers

Free with Insurance, New Pre-Pregnancy Test Saves Lives While Dramatically Cutting Health Care Costs

Genetic diseases like those seen in the new Harrison Ford movie "Extraordinary Measures" can now be prevented with a simple saliva test which is free with insurance for more than 100 million Americans.

The movie centers on the real-life efforts of the Crowleys, a family trying to find a cure for a rare genetic disease affecting two of the family’s three children. The condition wasn’t detected until after their children were born.

Now, couples can take a Universal Genetic Test before pregnancy to determine whether their baby is at risk for more than 100 life-threatening genetic diseases. At-risk couples may then use a well-understood procedure called IVF/PGD to protect their child from genetic disease and ensure a healthy pregnancy.

This Universal Genetic Test was invented by scientists and social entrepreneurs from Stanford and Harvard and brought to the public via a Stanford startup named Counsyl (counsyl.com). As Newsweek recently reported:

“What is the secret to improving public health while cutting costs? The question has consumed Washington, but it's being answered elsewhere, by doctors offering a new test for more than 100 rare recessive genes, some of which cause fatal diseases. The test, [offered by] Counsyl, lets potential parents assess their genomes to see if their future kids are at risk. ... This is as preventive as medicine gets: the test could eliminate all single-recessive-gene diseases.”

The test is now offered by physicians at more than 100 prestigious medical centers across the United States, including Yale Fertility Center (see counsyl.com/map), and has attracted the support of prominent academics, bioethicists,

religious leaders, families with genetic disease, and doctors from America’s largest hospitals.

Broad Support among Prominent Physicians for Universal Genetic TestingDr. Steven Ory, Past President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine: "After 30 years in reproductive medicine, I am more optimistic about this development in genetic disease prevention than I've ever been before. The vast majority of babies born with genetic disease have no family history. That's why it's so critically important for all parents to get the Universal Genetic Test before pregnancy."

Dr. Pasquale Patrizio, Director of the Yale Fertility Center: "Every adult of reproductive age needs the Counsyl test. It is unusual in that it benefits all three parts of the health care triad: patients, doctors, and insurers. A child stricken by

preventable genetic disease often dies in infancy and costs the bereaved parents millions in medical bills. A five minute saliva test that prevents this is a money saver, a time saver, and most importantly a life saver; it really is a no-brainer."

Dr. Thomas Walsh, Director of the Male Fertility Laboratory at the University of Washington: "Genetic testing has been recommended for all adults before pregnancy since 2001, but like many topics related to planning a pregnancy, awareness of this

issue continues to lag. This test covers several key genetic diseases, including cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, sickle cell, Tay-Sachs, and many others. The results of testing enable couples to make an informed decision before conceiving a child.”

Dr. John Marshall, Former Chairman of Ob/Gyn at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center: "Because the test can be taken in the privacy of one's home as well as in a clinical setting, it reminds me of the first 'at home pregnancy test'. This 'at home carrier test' is very similar in that the healthy adults who take it generally

test negative, with those who test positive referred for medical followup. It thus completely reshapes the debate over so-called direct-to-consumer or 'DTC' testing. Offering this test over the web as well as in a clinical setting is simply a moral imperative, as it is the only way to get needed care to people in rural areas who may be far away from large hospitals."

Dr. Michael Levy, Clinical Professor of Ob/Gyn at Georgetown & Director of IVF at Shady Grove Fertility, America's largest IVF center: "Parents who know their carrier status before pregnancy can take preventive measures to have a healthy

child. Because new techniques like PGD are used before pregnancy, they avoid the ethical dilemma of termination that was previously a roadblock to wider adoption of carrier testing."

The New Standard of Care at the Nation's Largest Fertility CentersDr. Angeline Beltsos, Medical Director of the Fertility Centers of Illinois: "Every doctor and patient wants to avoid a high-risk pregnancy. Yet many people don't know that

single gene disorders now account for more than 10% of infant deaths. The Universal Genetic Test is the next ultrasound: a non-invasive early warning system for couples to know if their baby is at risk."

Dr. Arthur Wisot, Medical Director of Reproductive Partners Medical Group in Los Angeles: "The Counsyl test is appropriate for everyone trying to conceive because it is the first test that makes it both practical and economical to screen for so

many genetic diseases. Couples can now protect their baby from developing any one of over a hundred debilitating and lethal genetic diseases with just a saliva sample. This test is the future of genetic screening."

Dr. Ian Hardy, Medical Director of Fertility Centers of New England: "We have been offering the Counsyl test to our incoming patients as part of their standard

evaluation with exceptional results. It is an easy-to-use saliva test which is covered by most insurance plans and allows couples to be screened for both common genetic diseases (like CF, SMA, PKU, and beta thalassemia) as well as dozens of rare conditions."

Dr. Kaylen Silverberg, Medical Director of Texas Fertility: "The Counsyl test replaces a battery of more expensive blood tests. It provides a couple and their physician with much more information for a fraction of the cost. Counsyl testing

represents a quantum leap forward in pre-pregnancy planning for couples — especially those concerned about having a child with a genetic disease — as it is safe, affordable, and easy to use."

Dr. Michael Soules, Medical Director of Seattle Reproductive Medicine: "The new Counsyl test is the simplest and most cost-effective way to do genetic screening as it checks for over 100 significant disorders with a single saliva sample. Enlightened insurance carriers are paying for this test as it saves them the major future expenses of covering a chronically sick child."

An Advance for Women, Minorities, and Families with Genetic Disease Professor Henry Louis Gates of Harvard University: "As the first genetic test for all ethnic groups, the Counsyl test represents a genuine breakthrough for minority health. With

one test for diverse communities, African Americans and Hispanics can benefit from a new technology that actually reduces health care disparities."

Elena Ashkinadze, Program Supervisor in Genetics, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School: "Because Counsyl's test simultaneously covers diseases from many ethnic groups at a considerably lower cost than standard blood tests, it promises to make carrier testing affordable for previously underserved patient populations, including African Americans and Hispanics. The current practice is mostly to screen once a woman gets pregnant. With Counsyl's test, we can change the emphasis to pre-pregnancy screening when more options, including preimplantation genetic diagnosis, are available. Ideally, women should understand that having carrier testing before
pregnancy is as important as refraining from alcohol during pregnancy."

David Brenner, Director of the Dysautonomia Foundation: "As a parent of a child with a genetic disease, I wouldn't want another child to suffer from what my son has

endured. Nothing is more important than safeguarding the health of our children, and this test is such a simple and powerful way to prevent terrible suffering."

Rabbi David Wolpe of the Sinai Temple in Los Angeles: "Several years ago, a mother whose son was born with Tay-Sachs said to me sadly ‘The Rabbi made sure to tell us not to play Wagner's march at our wedding, but said nothing about being genetically tested.’ Ensuring that Jewish couples — and others — are offered genetic
testing is a critical task."

Professor Steven Pinker of Harvard University: "Universal genetic testing can drastically reduce the incidence of genetic diseases, and may very well eliminate many of them." Last year, Professor Pinker took the test with his wife, the novelist Rebecca Goldstein. To raise awareness of preventable genetic disease, they are now publicly announcing for the first time that both of them tested positive as carriers for familial dysautonomia. While they themselves are healthy, their children would have been at risk for this life-threatening genetic disease — underscoring that the value of genetic testing is far from hypothetical.
About Counsyl

The Universal Genetic Test was developed by Counsyl, a Stanford startup founded by social entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Counsyl's mission is to end the needless suffering of preventable genetic disease.

To ensure that every ounce of prevention enables a pound of cure, each test taken helps Counsyl fund treatments for children living with genetic disease. More than $50,000 has already been donated to nonprofits over the course of 2009. For the next month, donations will go to the John F. and Aileen A. Crowley Foundation in honor of John Crowley, the Harvard Business School graduate whose life is the basis

Continental's Emergency Brake Assist on the road to success: another car manufacturer adopts the infrared sensor system

In 2010, another car manufacturer is to adopt the proximity sensor for the Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) city version, developed by Continental and first installed in the Volvo XC60. At city driving speeds, the system's infrared sensor supplies data for automatic brake application to prevent rear-end collisions.

Frankfurt am Main, Germany, September 15, 2009. The international automotive supplier Continental has convinced another European vehicle manufacturer to adopt its proximity sensor for the Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) city version for the prevention of rear-end collisions. The sensor system monitors the road ahead of the vehicle and is networked with the braking system. It automatically applies the brakes if there is a risk of a nose-to-tail collision and the driver either fails to react or his reactions are too slow. Continental supplies the infrared sensor, which monitors the road ahead and detects hazards, and the electronic braking system, both of which are core components.

Preventive intervention at speeds of up to around 30 km/h The risk of rear-end collisions is particularly great in city traffic with its constant alternation between braking and accelerating. 75 percent of accidents recorded by the police occur at speeds below 30 km/h. It is precisely at these speeds, in slow-moving or in "stop and go" traffic, that this sensor system, developed and produced by Continental based on the Closing Velocity (CV) sensor, reduces the risk of a rear-end collision. Fitted level with the inside mirror in the area cleaned by the windshield wiper, this sensor uses three laser beams to scan the road conditions ahead up to a distance of around eight meters. The sensor picks up vehicles which are stationary or traveling in the same direction. If the gap is less than the distance regarded as critical at the current speed, the system applies the brakes automatically.

If the maximum speed differential between the vehicles was 15 km/h, a rear-end collision would be avoided in most cases. And, at greater relative speeds, the severity of the impact would be considerably mitigated. At the same time, the system optimizes occupant protection by providing additional data to the airbag control unit and triggering the restraint systems as required. Dr. Ralf Cramer, President of the Chassis & Safety Division and member of the Executive Board at Continental: "Tailor-made solutions for all vehicle classes and applications are ideals that we make possible with our scalable modules. The adoption of this system by another manufacturer brings us a significant step closer to our 'safety for everyone' target and will prevent numerous accidents and injuries."

With sales exceeding €24 billion in 2008, the Continental Corporation is one of the top automotive suppliers worldwide. As a supplier of brake systems, systems and components for the powertrain and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics, tires and technical elastomers, the corporation contributes towards enhanced driving safety and protection of the global climate.
